Biodynamic tree paste
OVERVIEW & USE
Tree paste is a good tool for some quick an easy TLC on your orchard. It’s going to help fertilize the tree, working as a nutrition amendment. It will also assist the tree in preventing and combatting any dis-ease.
There are more desirable times of the year to apply the tree paste but it essentially can be used at any time. The desirable times are based on the dormancy of the trees and cosmic influences. Speaking from my own experience, I have known it to be applied during late fall, winter, late winter—
There are a few different ways to apply the paste but I will only share the way I was taught. There is more literature on diluting the paste, screening it for sprayer application but I’m not a fan. With that being said- I’m just an opinionated lass and you should always do your own research and experiments.
First you’ll want to “scrub” your tree down to remove any loose bark. I “paint” my paste right on the tree, lather it up three or four feet from the base of tree. All areas recently pruned also benefit to be covered by the tree paste. Once the tree is sufficiently covered you could put a cloth around the paste, or tree wrap to help prevent rain from washing it away, but it is not essential to be covered. And you’re done, it’s a low tech common sense way to keep a healthy tree.
INGREDIENTS
I should disclaim that I have seen a multitude of recipes and have created the Nature Lyceum recipe based on experiment. We do have a few extra ingredients in our paste that are not shown here but this is a good baseline for the recipe. The paste can be bought in our online store but I would recommend if the ingredients are easy to source around your area, keep it as local as possible.
This recipe will cover 2-3 mature tree depending on type. You can double, triple, quadruple the recipe for a large orchard.
5lb Cow Manure (preferably from cows that have had at least one lactation)
5lb Clay
1lb Sand
1/2 gallon Fermented equisetum
1tbsp Horn Manure (BD500)
1 tbsp Barrel compost
1 cup Egg shells
1 cup Basalt
Combine ingredients and mix until a thick paint-like consistancy. Add water (preferably rain water) if you’re having trouble mixing.
