Biodynamic Yarrow Preparation #502

Creating the biodynamic preparations are a low tech process worth trying for your farm or garden. Not much to lose as it isn’t costly and proves to be an enriching experience for all involved.

The yarrow preparation is connected to potassium and sulphur. It is to be hung up over the summer months in a tree, taken down at the end of fall and buried in the ground for the winter months. You can take it back up in the spring and awe in the wonderful substance you’ve created that can be used in your compost or compost teas.

Materials needed:

  • Stag’s bladder

  • Yarrow flower

  • Needle & thread

You’ll see the process pictured below

Step one: The bladder can be blown up with a straw, you’ll want to wet the casing to make it malleable enough to fill with the yarrow flowers

Step two: Fill the bladder with yarrow flowers without penetrating the casing

Step three: Sow up the small opening where you had stuffed the flowers. We created a small handle on ours so it could easily be hung up over the summer months.

Special thank you to Sonomi Obianata, Jean-David and the crew at Churchtown Dairy!
